最早的美国中国搜藏家是Nathan Dunn。In 1838, he opened the “Chinese Museum” in Philadelphia, with an accompanying 120-page catalog, Ten Thousand Chinese Things.

The Chinese Museum opened in Boston in 1845 and moved to Philadelphia two years later. John R. Peters, Jr., producer of the museum and author of the museum's catalogue (Print Ref. / DS / 714 / .B6 / 1845a), had been a member of Caleb Cushing's diplomatic mission to China that negotiated the Treaty of Wang-hsia in 1844.

尽管都叫《中华大观》但是纽约这套是PTBarnum从死在英国的Quaker 商人Nathan Dunn那里买下来的。
PT Barnum 从Nathan Dun Collection 借了一部分在 539 Broadway 商人豪宅里 NYC Cosner HOUSE展览过。所以才有这个小册子。
