After Spain conquered the Americas, they suddenly had lots of loot to spend on silk/porcelain/etc. so they greatly increased trade with the Far East. I never heard of "corn tea" before, but the Koreans probalby adapted it from their barley "tea". I suspect you could get the same results by boiling some corn on the cob and then mixing the leftover water with salt or some other crap before you drink it.
