that would be helpful to reduce gun violence and gun deaths in the US. For example, a universal instant criminal background check, mandated reporting of certain red flagged mental illnesses and developmental delay to the NICS, and mandatory safe storage of firearms in homes with minors or other occupants who are prohibited from owning guns. You would think many or all of these would already be laws, but only some of these laws exist at a state or local level; none are federal laws. I'm not sure any of these laws would have stopped the Orlando shooting, but they would certainly have stopped many other gun deaths due to psychotic or developmentally delayed people, kids getting their hands on guns, and criminals buying guns like they could buy candy. These are laws which IMO give the most bang for the buck. Most other ideas for gun laws are stupid and would do little to nothing to reduce gun deaths while significantly impacting gun owners' rights at the same time.
