snenerio. If the People's Republic ever dicides to invade an Island, it will definitely face strong condennations from international community from which it will dead to an outright isolation and economic stagnation for a long period of time. Allies of the People's Republic from Asia, Africa and Russia won't change their stance however. Unless Washington's willingness to sell Taiwan weapons ceases, the Island will continue to resist any unification. I never believe U S will intervene in the Taiwan strait after the late 90s. China has possessed sufficient economics, politics, and military capability to make the United States think twice. Furthermore, Washington needs congressional approvals from both republicans and democrats if it wants to take up the massive military commitment to defend Taiwan at the present time. The Taiwan Relations Act belongs to the era of 70s and 80s when China was still very weak. It will be revised and amended when time comes.
