I don't think US Protestantism is really that universal in terms of tolerance, provincialism, etc. All religions including atheism have a tendency to foster an "us versus them" mentality which is good for group cohesion but not good for "universalism" (whatever that means). Besides, High Church Anglicans (or any other Protestants for that matter) converting a tribe of naked cannibals would probably impose clothing and dietary restrictions on their new converts.
