IIRC the idea to legalise prostitution was mooted in Keelung or somewhere, but I don't think it got anywhere. ML is really not very different from TW in most socio-cultural aspects (except for Taiwan's political problems and baseball), I doubt mainland urban areas are much better than Taiwan in this regard. Chinese in general tend to have a transactional approach to sex. In the 19th century, the majority of Chinese women in the United States were employed as prostitutes. In modern times, there is a reason Chinese women in the West are better able to advance socially and occupationally than Chinese men.
