While waiting to meet up with my attorney today, I decided to eat at Mings Garden. A Chinese girl in her early 20s served me then said, "You look like Asian. Where are you from" She barely speaks English enough to get by. I told her I was oringinally from Laos and she said Oh Laos! So I asked her, "What about you? Where are you from?" And she said I am from China. You are from mainland. I said right after her, but she got confused. Mainland? What's mainland? She asked. Later I brought up Hainanese Chicken. She was quite helpful by telling me to go to Cantonese restaurant. There's one off Highway 580 West called Gum Kuo. She used to work there. They have Hainanese Chicken aka Steam Chicken. She used to work there. Anyway, I assume that the word Mainland is only used by overseas Chinese.
