We are losing millions of jobs a year to automation. I read some article last year that for the first time ever some assembly line-type machine was invented that could take a bale of cotton and turn out a complete T-shirt with no human intervention at all, and do everything 6 times faster than a human could. Once this machine gets perfected, patented, and mass produced, millions upon millions of low-wage jobs in South and SE Asia will evaporate into thin air. Automation is coming for truckers, drivers, and even airline pilots some day (autopilot programs already routinely land airliners). There are now software programs that read some CT and MRI images better than human radiologists can. Automated servers and even cooks are proliferating everywhere. Meanwhile we are rushing headlong toward the AI singularity with complete abandon because not doing so would give potential adversary nations a military edge. Finally, I've read many articles over the years which say that deep space is essentially an impenetrable barrier to human colonization due to the intense radiation exposures humans would face. If we do some day seed the universe with our progeny, they may not look anything like us....
