I have to agree with you regarding the timing and the urgency for a trade deal (for the dotard to declare victory).
It would also be interesting to see if China is going to switch from New Zealand, Aussie, and Canadian agricultural products to those of the US. If that happens, Canada is going to whine like a bitch on how the US screws over Canada twice in such short time span. With the limited number of products China would actually want to buy from the US, the substitution effect is almost inevitable and this time around it is the politics not the price driving the process.
