The original movie was so long ago that the story lost it relevance in today's world.   I would change it.  In the post apocalypse world where food is scarce, New York city is a protected city with only a few million elite residents.  Bordering New York is a large mass of migrants living off the crumps of the excesses of the city.  Soylent Green, a food manufacturing company kidnaps these migrants as one of the ingredients for its meat products misguiding the consumers that the meat is lab grown.
