Hard to compare when China has 1.3 billion people. Double the total European population. At the top end of the middle income GDP per capita level, it has economy of scale that European countries don't have unless the EU expands and becomes more cohesive.
India has the GDP per capita of sub-Saharan economies.
In the aftermath of the Coronavirus pandemic, India has nothing to lose economically. It's GDP prior to the pandemic has slowed down to its slowest in years. After the pandemic, it is projected to half the growth. So much for a country with a GDP per capita of sub-Saharan countries.
It probably will have lots of problems containing the potential social unrest.
