But the point is if educationists figure out how to test a person's 'problem solving' skills and 'original thinking' skills, would these 'tests' be 'standardized'? I mean to differentiate those who did well and those who flunked by assigning them a numerical or grading score of some kind?

Sounds like murikan version of cultural revolution to me. As I said b4, a 14 or 15 years old kid should grab a copy of 'Teach Yourself Calculus' to study to prove him/herself.
