your post is like one of those Hindu post about its "achievements" and India is "great".
No doubt China has achieved quite a lot post-Mao. The article is a Yank's perpective because it looks at China like as though China is just another country and uses metrics without understanding the differences between cultures and peoples and their abilites and potential .I would look at China's growith trajectory like its cousins, Jaoan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore. The article is just like those that want to compare China with India just because it has one similarity, population. I would compare India to Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, Just like I would compare Indonesia to Malaysia and the Phillipines. Thailand to Cambodia, Laos and in some ways, Vietnam.
There is a great disconnect between the conventional "wisdom" in the US and the global reality. Policies based on 'American exceptionalism" are so outdated and out of touch. Then again, China still has a long way to go but is making corect lontg term strategic moves that may tackle upcoming challenges.
