but Ukraine is not quite like Korea because it is largely flat and not constricted by oceans. So there won't be an "East Ukraine" and "West Ukraine", Russia will just annex the east. Of course the Russians will need to mobilise fully and increase defence production if they want to hold what they currently have. I think this is what the current referenda are intended to do - make the territory officially Russian, then the Ukrainians are attacking Russian land and conscription can legally begin. I agree that if Ukraine turns against China then China would logically need to throw all support behind Russia, but this may not necessarily happen or need to happen. The Euros were going to oppose China regardless because of the US. I wonder how the Russian gas embargo will end up affecting their policy...
