When China started the BRI project, its main goal is to connect China with Europe through Russia and central Asia, creating Eurasia Economic integration. That is one humongous economic zone. It meant to diversify China economic dependence on the US market. It also meant to develop a new economic zone that is more dynamic and bigger than the US market with China in it and the US isn't. Without Europe and Russia, BRI is practically dead in the water. Like you said, China probably has to reset the project, and find smaller and longer term goals. Africa, Asia and Latin America are promising, but they are for the future. So to say that war in Ukraine cost nothing to China is wrong. The US played this game beautifully this time, and Russia and Europe basically played into the US hand, and if China is not careful, this game could be replay in Asia. Thankfully most Asian countries are smarter than their blind counterparts in Europe. Many of them could see the plots.
