other resources which can't be replaced by renewables. Even if we magically got a constant supply of cheap and inexhaustible energy from solar, wind, thorium, and/or fusion, we would STILL need coal for smelting, petroleum for plastics, natural gas for nitrate fertiliser (as I mentioned earlier) and phosphate minerals for phosphate fertilizer (as I also mentioned earlier).
