They officially keep for 12+ years but actually they last for 20+ years according to many survivalists if you keep them in a cool, dry, and dark environment. Just to be sure I will be rotating my stockpile every 15 years.Water storage and water purification also go hand in hand with food storage. Look into Emergency Essentials 160 gallon stackable tanks. I have 2 in my garage; you can't beat 320 gal of purified water with a footprint of only 1 square yard. Your water heater can also serve as an emergency source of 30-50 gallons of fresh water (as long as you don't flush, take a shower, or use the faucet). Water purification can be had for pretty cheap these days: Sawyer Mini, Lifestraw, Katadyn filtration systems are all recommended.
I don't know where you live, but firearms, ammunition, and precious metals (gold/silver) are also highly recommended.
